It has been a very busy past two years for me. The COVID pandemic has meant moving live in person lectures for genealogy societies and libraries to a virtual platform. In order to make it easier for these groups, I’ve been offering webinars on the Zoom platform (along with a 4 page PDF handout and a recording) for just $100 USD.
I am grateful that the response has been overwhelming. I am blessed. Since the start of the pandemic:
- 95 webinars in 2020
- 189 webinars so far in 2021, with 57 more to go before the end of the year
- 47 webinars scheduled for 2022 through 30 April
That’s 284 completed webinars since since the start of the pandemic, and 104 more to go.
Here’s What Semi-Retirement Looks Like for Me: A Business Model Shift
Well, the genealogy industry can’t get rid of me yet. I will still be offering reasonably-priced, actionable, genealogy education but in a new format.
I believe that the current 50 minute lecture / 10 minute Q&A period for most webinars is stale and ineffective. I will be developing online courses with the following content:
- Short videos
- Live group sessions
- “Flipped” classes where an assignment is due BEFORE the live group session.
If you’ve ever looked at online platforms such as MasterClass, Kajabi, Coursera, Teachable, or Udemy, then you’ll realize where I am going with this. And yes there will be courses for genealogy societies. And they will be all reasonable prices. And yes, some will be FREE.
If you have ever attended one of my webinars or, as a society or library education program manager, ever hired me for your group … thank you. I cannot express my gratitude enough.
