Ancestry Family Trees – How to Invite Others to View or Help Build Your Tree

Ancestry Family Trees - How to Invite Others to View or Help Build Your Tree

Ancestry Family Trees: Have you ever wanted to share your family tree at Ancestry with friends, family, or even other researchers?  Here’s the easy way to do it:

  • Click on Trees on the top menu, scroll down and select Create & Manage Trees.

  • Locate the tree to share and click Tree Settings on the right.

  • On the top menu click Invitations, click Invite people, and add an Ancestry username, or an email, or copy the link to send to the person you’re inviting.

  • The invited person will receive an email or a message via Ancestry with the link. Once they’ve accessed the link, you will receive an email confirmation that the invitation has been activated.
  • You can change the invited person’s role or delete their access to the tree at any time.

Ancestry Family Trees: Money Saving Tip

Most of the sales on Ancestry memberships will not allow an existing member to take advantage of the savings … the sale is intended for new members only.  But here’s how I’ve used the tree sharing trick above to get around that:

  • Use a new email address (created on one of the popular email platforms such as Gmail or Outlook) and create a NEW Ancestry account when purchasing the membership … and don’t forget to enter the coupon code (scroll to the top).
  • Once the new Ancestry account is active, login as the OLD account, then invite the NEW account to your tree (use the Editor role for full access).

Now you’ll have access to your tree using the new Ancestry account with the discounted membership!
