Kristen Chenoweth at RootsTech 2024: Kristin Chenoweth’s Early Life and Family
Born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Kristin was adopted by her parents Junie and Jerry Chenoweth shortly after birth. Kristin’s adoption story has fueled her passion for supporting various charities that aid children needing loving, adoptive families.
Chenoweth’s parents are both chemical engineers, so how did Kristin end up in the bright lights of Broadway in New York City? She is excited to tell her personal story at RootsTech 2024 and the role strong family ties played in helping her achieve her dreams.
Chenoweth graduated from Oklahoma City University with a BA in musical theatre and a master’s degree in opera performance. In 1993, she began to pursue a career in theater. Kristin auditioned for a musical Animal Crackers production on a whim while visiting a friend in New York City. After being cast as the lead in the show, Kristin knew she had found her calling in life.
Chenoweth has performed for sold-out audiences across the world and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She is perhaps most famous for starring as Glinda in the original Broadway cast of Wicked. She has appeared in various television shows such as The West Wing, Pushing Daisies (Emmy Award), Glee, Disney’s “Descendants”, and American Gods, a Starz Channel original. Kristin won a Tony Award for her role in “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”, and also played Velma Von Tussle in NBC’s Hairspray Live! in 2016. For her next major project, she will be starring in and producing the new musical “The Queen of Versailles”, based on the 2012 award-winning documentary.
