My OldNews Success Story – Thanks to MyHeritage!

My OldNews Success Story - Thanks to MyHeritage!

My OldNews Success Story: I’ve been tinkering around with the new historical website OldNews™ by MyHeritage and right off the bat, with my first search I scored GOLD!

I have been writing an ancestor biographical sketch for my Grandfather Abraham MacEntee (1913-1977) who was the father of my father Richard MacEntee (1939-2019). For research purposes I wanted to know more about where he lived during certain periods of his life.

Searching for “Elmer MacEntee” in New York – Elmer A. MacEntee was the father of Abraham MacEntee, I located a birth announcement for my great-uncle John Elmer Craig MacEntee, born 13 November 1937 at Walkill, New York.

What really caught my attention? The fact that my grandparents lived on what was called the “Borden Home Farm.”

So, of course, in order to have a complete history of where Abraham MacEntee lived, I next did a search of the Borden Home Farm. Despite having grown up in the Orange and Ulster County areas of New York, I never heard of the place. Was it a working farm? Was it perhaps similar to a poor house for those who could not take care of themselves and their family?

And I did find out the amazing history of the Borden Home Farm which was started by Gail Borden, who invented condensed milk in 1853.

The history of the Borden Home Farm was a feature of The Daily Saratogian newspaper, located in Saratoga Springs, New York … a good 120 miles north of Walkill.

I can’t wait to do more research on OldNews™ since it is easy to use and easy to save newspaper pages as part of my genealogy records collection.
